In the middle of the photo is Thelma H. Fant. Thelma Fant began life with a grudge against her brother, and she continued through her life as an angry and vengeful woman. It all started with her brother accidentally shooting her in the eye with his bow and arrow set. A later measles infection damaged her good eye with pox scars.
James Hollowell will later have some trials getting her married off. Mac Fant, a poor country boy with a diploma from a bible college and some scholarship from Georgia Tech in Oil Field engineering was enticed into marrying Thelma by way of Jame Hollowell's Freemasonry contacts and networks. Mac's full name was Joseph MacJunkin Fant; he is on the far left in the picture. I suppose a poor boy from South Carolina needed people who knew other people, and James Hollowell knew people. It can surmised that is how he got his job in Sinclair Oil. They lived for awhile in San Francisco, and he worked closely with Harry Ford Sinclair. The Fant couple got into a dispute with a key person in the company, and they then returned to the Home Park neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia.
From then on Thelma nursed a keen hatred for Harry Sinclair, calling him a megalomaniac. For many years Thelma Fant had pleaded with Mac to adopt a child, due to Thelma not being able carry a child of her own. Thelma on her own had been through 7 or 8 adoption agencies in just as many states. She complained in a voice filled with grievance and shrill torment that "they" wouldn't let a blind woman adopt a child.
The only way I could you an idea of what she was like is to
suggest you watch The Rose Garden by Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The
actress , Evelyn Varden who plays Cordelia just brings chills up my
spine by how similar she is to the real Thelma Fant. For fair use purposes I only use a small segment to make my point known.
Years later, when my grandmother by blood had gotten herself into some "girl trouble", an accidental pregnancy, by which the Fants were able to adopt this child by Mac Fant's efforts alone. Unfortunately Thelma knew way too much about this child and her mother, and the girl child was not warmly received by Thelma due to her hatred of a Sinclair family member. This child also had a trust fund, and Thelma had intense hawk-eyes for this fund.
Thelma Fant had adopted my Mother Priscilla Fant. My mother endured as a child much physical abuse, having been slapped by her at least 4 times a week. Thelma would say such motherly things to her such as "I despise you", "I loathe you", and "You are a liar and God hates liars". Thelma would later adopt a younger child who had all the features of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and this child would ape Thelma Fant's mannerisms, patois, and running insults. Unfortunately Thelma Fant had never taught Thelma Anne Fant any sort of boundaries or ways of proper behavior, so it was perfectly okay for Anne to destroy her sister's things.
Anne Fant would become an adult woman who knew no self-government to her behavior. As she was able to start many fights and arguments with my mother, resulting in my mother getting many whippings at the hand of Thelma Fant. No matter what it was, Anne was always the "victim", and my mother was always pronounced the bad one. Only my mother's friendship with Nancy Mason gave her any sense of reality, as Nancy Mason herself told Priscilla no good mother is that mean towards a child. It only took one visit by Nancy Mason to convince her mother to never visit the Fant household again. Nancy Mason was shaken to the core by the abusiveness of the two Thelmas toward Priscilla Fant. This is the background for the later defrauding of my mother of her trust fund.
